Mozart et l'opéra-comique

Mozart encountered opéra comique in Paris and in Vienna, and owned some scores. He completed three operas with spoken dialogue in German; all can be connected to opéra comique repertoire. Several writers have wrongly suggested that his work in this genre is atypical. Die Zauberflöte in particular is much indebted to opéra comique, especially the combination and connection of the comic and the sublime.
