Le Balcon pour cordes vocales et instrumentales. Un hommage à Caplet ?

Le Balcon occupies a novel place in Durosoir’s work. The violinist met the composer André Caplet at the front in October 1915; the two men played together in the same chamber ensemble, but their frequent and intense exchanges of opinion on music helped to direct Durosoir’s thoughts towards the techniques of writing, form and aesthetics. The instrumental and vocal forces employed in Le Balcon immediately call to mind Caplet’s Septuor à cordes vocales et instrumentales, but are also reminiscent of other works by that composer. In Le Balcon, the use of vocalising female voices lends a sweetness to the tone and an unusual versatility to the melodic arabesque. These elements seem to have modifed Durosoir’s mode of musical expression; is it possible therefore to detect an influence in this work or regard Le Balcon asa homage to Caplet?
